We are proud to offer oil painting and drawing classes taught by both
Shelly Young and our newest instructors, David Meikle and Brendan Clary.
Brendan is a recent graduate of BYU-Idaho with an emphasis in Oil
Painting. While he concentrates primarily on portraiture (see his work on the left), he is ready to help his students with a wide range of subject matter including portaiture, landscape and still life motifs. He will begin teaching a brand new class on Tuesday nights
(6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) on July 5th. Register today as we expect this class
to fill up promptly.
David began his study of art with Harold Petersen and went on to study
with Ray Morales, Sam Wilson and Paul Davis, eventually getting his MFA
in painting at the University of Utah. David's award winning landscapes
can be found in most major Utah art competitions and are also a part of
the permanent collections of the Springville Museum and Salt Lake
County.
Shelley has a Foundational 3-year degree from the Watts Atelier located
in Encinitas California with an emphasis in traditional portrait and
figure drawing and painting and has also studied recently at the
Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy.
All instructors are ready to help students in a wide variety of styles and subject matter. Students
may choose to work in either oil or acrylic media, and might also
consider the new water soluble oil paints that offer many of the
advantages of both oils and acrylics. All of these media are available
at Salt Lake's best prices on our main floor in Utrecht's Art Supplies.
