Every parent watches for keys and signals that might indicate what the special talents and abilities of each child will be.
Artistic talent often shows itself at a very young age and if nurtured can become an important and rewarding element of your child's entire life.
So what do you look for?  These questions can help you assess your child's artistic aptitude.
1.    Does the  child exhibit an interest in drawing, coloring or sculpting that begins spontaneously at an early age?
2.    Does the child spend long periods of time focused on drawing, coloring or sculpting while seemingly unaware of the passage of time?
3.    Does the child show an awareness of his or her environment by incorporating it into his or her art?
4.    Does the child include considerable detail in his or her art?
5.    Does the child like to draw cartoons and do those cartoons show facial expressions and or body language?
If you answered yes to many of these questions you child is already demonstrating a greater aptitude and ability for artistic expression.  This aptitude may show itself as early a pre-elementary ages or in the early elementary grades.  Generally such students are ready to benefit from instruction as early as the first grade.
