"Artists of Utah," written by Robert Olpin and William Seifrit states that Harold Petersen "has been a brilliant painter and an art teacher almost without local peer. His successful well trained students are legion..." It is a fitting introduction for our founder and director. "Pete" has taught Utah artists for over forty years seeing many students go on to receive college scholarships, followed by brilliant careers in the arts. In 39 years of Sterling Scholar competition his students have placed among the top three state winners 22 times. Today his dedication is extended to students of all ages at the Petersen Art Center.

When asked to comment on his career, Pete responded "I love my students, those talented, creative, dedicated artists with whom I have had the privilege of sharing life and art. The making of art is a very personal endeavor and so I am always pleased to see the great variety of styles and media represented at the Center. It also pleases me immensely to know that our classes have enriched the lives of thousands of students, not just as artists, but as individuals of great value and strength." Each of these limited edition, 30 by 40 inch hand signed prints has been beautifully printed on acid free paper. "Immigrant" (below) is one of the artist's most loved paintings. Western art patrons will enjoy his "After the Rodeo," (above left) and "An Old Gunfighter," (below left). Both paintings celebrate the artist's love of the cowboy hero's of his youth.
